NCPCR to Hyderabad police: Probe death of Aradhana Samdariya
Hyderabad: The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights ordered the Hyderabad police commissioner and collector to inquire into the death of Aradhana Samdariya after 68 days of fasting.
The commission took objection to the alleged forced fasting of the 13-year-old student after her parents were reportedly advised by a Chennai based priest to perform the Chaturmas for her father’s business to recover.
It ordered the police commissioner to submit a detailed inquiry report within 10 days with a factual report, authenticated copies of documents and appropriate action as per the law taken against the culprits.
Elsewhere, CPI national secretary Dr K. Narayana wrote a letter the Chief Justice of India, requesting him to issue directives to the Central and state governments to take appropriate measures to stop such practices. “What was the government doing and what steps did the police take to end the fast,” he asked.
The family was not illiterate but of educated people. “If they could not convince the child to stop the fast, they would have taken the help of police. This is a clear case of abetting murder,” he said.
The Lokayukta ordered the North Zone DCP to conclude the inquiry that it had ordered by October 29.
