SHE teams claim success as women harassment cases reduces in Hyderabd

The cops celebrated the second anniversary of the SHE Team on Monday.

Hyderabad: Hyderabad police claim that there is a reduction of around 20 per cent in the harassment of women in the city after the SHE Team was launched. They say that a majority of the city’s population is aware of SHE teams and would-be perpetrators are afraid of being caught. The cops celebrated the second anniversary of the SHE Team on Monday.

Information about the SHE team is now introduced in the intermediate curriculum in Telangana. “Seventy-six per cent of people in Hyderabad city are aware of SHE teams. The team is now a topic in Intermediate 2nd year Civics syllabus (Telangana State Board) in order to educate students to respect women,” said SHE team chief, Swati Lakra. “There is a drastic reduction in harassment of women,” she added.

Police said 1,521 cases of harassment of women were reported last year, which is down to 1,296 cases this year. SHE Team received 1217 complaints through Dial 100 and 322 via Facebook and hundreds through WhatsApp,
hawkeye and direct phone calls.
