Visakhapatnam: Mohammed Abubakar, a senior commando of Greyhounds, was home on leave just a week ago. Three days ago, he received a call to join duty for an urgent operation. The operation turned tragic as the commando died in the battle with ultras in the Malkangiri forest area on Monday.
The 27-year-old Abubakar had left home and reported for duty following a phone call from higher officials. After reaching the Munchingput area on Wednesday he told his parents Mohammed Madina and Unnisa Begum that he was on an important mission on the Andhra-Odisha border and requested them not to make any phone calls, says the parents of the slain commando.
“My son said that he would return soon after the operation is over and assured us that he would stay at least a week at home. But, it was my son’s body with blood stains that arrived,'” says his parents.
The family of the slain commando was inconsolable. His father, who is an auto driver suffered much in bringing up Abubakar and his sister. The parents of Abubakar said that the commando liked his sister’s children a lot and used to call them every Sunday.
AP DGP N. Sambasiva Rao and other police officials, visited the slain commando’s home. The DGP gave them a cheque for Rs 20 lakh as ex-gratia and promised them another Rs 18 lakh. His parents will get his salary till superannuation. Dismissing allegations that the Maoists were killed in cold blood Mr Rao said the rebels were killed in battle.
