Telangana Govt Doctors Association slams DPH over botched FP probe
HYDERABAD: The Telangana Government Doctors Association that comprises doctors working under the Director of Public Health and Family Welfare, Dr G. Srinivasa Rao, slammed him on Saturday for what it called a hotch-potch probe into the death of four women at a family planning camp on August 25.
Association president Dr Lalu Prasad Rathod condemned Dr Rao’s decision to identify several doctors and staff at the Ibrahimpatnam community health centre as being responsible for the infections among all the 34 women who underwent the surgery.
Dr Rathod said it was absolutely unfair and incorrect to have a one-man probe committee of Dr Srinivasa Rao who was not qualified to conduct the investigation. Instead, the committee should have had an experienced surgeon, a senior gynaecologist and medical professionals experienced in surgical procedures. He said the transfer of the Ranga Reddy DM&HO and posting her as an assistant director in the health department and calling it a punishment was laughable.
The retired surgeon, Dr Joel Sunil Kumar, who performed the surgeries, was made scapegoat with the probe committee giving orders to file criminal charges against him and this was not correct, Dr Rathod said.
