While most Bengalureans have a hard time in traffic in the city, commuters on the busy stretch between Embassy Golf Tech Park and Domlur Flyover have it even worse as not only is it poorly lit at night, but is also hamstrung with unscientifically located dividers and zebra crossings, that motorists and pedestrians find hard to negotiate. With the traffic police hardly in attendance, the resulting chaos is a recipe for disaster, reports Mujahid Deputy
Bengalureans are accustomed to notoriously long traffic jams consuming a large amount of their time. While there are many areas in the city where road discipline goes for a toss every day, travelling on the busy stretch between Embassy Golf Tech Park and Domlur Flyover is nothing short of a nightmare for both drivers and pedestrians.
It is here both motorists and pedestrians risk their lives. While motorists pose a threat to themselves and others by violating one ways and taking U-Turns at random, pedestrians too cross roads in the way of traffic, forcing drivers to brake suddenly to avoid running over them. The result is nothing short of chaos.
With the area abuzz with techies due to the presence of innumerable software companies, most of the pedestrians are software engineers, who risk their lives every day on this busy stretch, by often jumping off the dividers to get to the other side of the road in the way of rashly driven vehicles.
"Passing through this stretch (Embassy Golf Tech Park and Domlur Flyover) is nothing short of a nightmare with people crossing the roads from all directions. Even bikers use this stretch according to their whims and fancies. This poses a big threat to cars and other four-wheeler drivers," said one regular commuter on the road, Arjun. However, pedestians blame unscientific zebra crossings for the chaos on the stretch.
"We know pedestrians should use zebra crossings while crossing the roads and it's for their safety. But with signals being switched off at night, zebra crossings are as good as any other random location people use to cross the roads," said Anil, a techie. Besides the senseless driving, the poorly lit stretch also poses a big threat to the road users.
