Mysuru: It’s official. Scion of the royal family of Mysuru, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar will be the brand ambassador for the tourism destinations of Mysuru, Kodagu, Chamarajnagar, Mandya and Hassan. Mr Yaduveer has in a letter to Tourism Minister, Sa Ra Mahesh, accepted the tourism department’s invitation to be brand ambassador. Mr Mahesh had met Mr Yaduveer last Wednesday to discuss the idea to promote tourism in the old Mysuru region as the department is concerned by the fluctuating number of tourists, especially foreigners, to these districts.

“Mysuru has a lot to offer in terms of history and heritage. With the scion of the royal family himself acting as its ambassador, it will be able to attract more tourists, especially from abroad. Even now around 30 lakh tourists arrive in Mysuru every year. But we have the potential to attract five lakh more,” said Mr Prashanth B S, head of the Mysuru Travel Agents Association.

Hotel owners’ association head, Mr Narayangowda says Mysuru which has 7000 hotel rooms presently, could after proper promotion of its tourism, accommodate at least 30,000 tourists every day. “While tourists today stay for just one or two days, with proper promotion of all our tourism destinations, we could keep them for at least four or five days,” he added. According to him of the 10,000 tourists that come to Mysuru every day, over 5000 stay on for a longer stay currently. And of the 15,000 to 20,000 tourists who visit it during the weekends, over 15,000 stay on for a longer stay.
