Hyderabad: RGUKT shuts amid 6,000 students' protest

This is first of its kind protest in which almost all the students on the campus participated.

Hyderabad: The Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technology has declared holidays from September 25 following intense protests by students regarding the conditions at the university.

Students had complained to minister K.T. Rama Rao and were on a protest since September 23 alleging that the university administration was corrupt.

The university said the Vice-Chancellor’s effort to control the unrest had failed as neither the students nor their representatives had shown interest in discussing the issues with him. In view of the holidays, the mess, dormitories, hostels will be closed from Wednesday after breakfast and outpasses will be issued to all the students.

Earlier on Monday, as many as 6,000 students, including girls, of IIIT Basar staged a hunger protest in front of the academic block demanding that the state government take steps to make the institute corruption-free and streamline the administration.
