Chennai: Residents face hardships from parked buses
Chennai: Private buses parked in the streets cause hindrances for residents of Mahalingapuram. They said apart from occupying the place, the parked buses are misused by anti-social elements.
Sekar, a resident of Mahalingapuram said “People use these as hiding places. Also, the drivers stay back sometimes inside the buses the whole night affecting the overall health of the area”. The women of the area said they feel unsafe walking past those vehicles. Many others said the narrowness of the road causes minor accidents.
The vehicle owners and the drivers said they have permission from the cops to park it in the streets. The officials have denied any such permission. They said they would look into the matter. “We have the authority to fine and warn them. If the locals come together and raise the issue the place can be made a no parking space area”, he said.
Dr Anand Jothi, a resident of the area said,”I have photo records of the trouble caused because of the vehicles. I have met the police officials and am working on garnering the support of the residents”.
