Chennai: Responding to DMK leader M.K. Stalin’s demand for a CBI probe into J. Jayalalithaa’s death, Forest Minister Dindigul C. Sreenivasan on Sunday said there was “nothing wrong” in asking for such an inquiry.
“This is not new. He (Stalin) has been demanding a CBI inquiry for a long time. Let them have a CBI inquiry. What’s wrong in that?” he asked. Srinivasan was replying to questions on Stalin demanding the Union Government to order a CBI inquiry into Jayalalithaa’s death.
Srinivasan, who had sparked a major controversy on Friday by claiming that all ministers and leaders lied about Jayalalithaa’s real health condition fearing V.K. Sasikala, also said the state government was in the process of constituting the judicial commission to go into her death.
‘Steps being taken to appoint probe panel’
“It is in the process. Once the Chief Minister makes an announcement, officials start the process of implementing the announcement. The Chief Minister announced an inquiry and work is on to appoint the Commission,” Srinivasan said.
“Please wait for the due process to be completed. It is not like setting up a shop which can be done in a day,” he said when reporters pressed him further on the issue.
Tamil Nadu Government had on August 17 announced that an inquiry commission would be appointed to go into the death of J. Jayalalithaa since there has been a lot of theories about her death.
