Mangaluru Congress' new mantra: Keep the workers happy
MANGALURU: As loyal party workers grow restive over the long wait for rewards in the form of appointments to state-owned boards and corporations, a group of Congress leaders in this coastal city has launched a unique programme of felicitating such workers in order to contain dissent at the grass-roots level well ahead of elections to the Legislative Assembly in 2018.
Three such programmes have been held over the last six months in Mangaluru, including a leadership camp, and ones to pay tribute to former minister Blasius D’Souza and senior party worker Mohammed Badruddin.
“Party workers form the back bone of any party because they work tirelessly to strengthen the party and ensure its success in elections. The tradition of recognizing such workers and thanking them for their work seems to be forgotten here. Thus we have started some programmes to felicitate them. The leadership camp was a great success. Party workers were given leadership training by experts. Workers were very happy with this programme, and state leaders too appreciated it. The other important events were to pay homage to Badruddin and Blasius. These events were important as they are symbolical in sending a message that the party respects those who have worked for the party. ,” AICC member P V Mohan, one of the key persons in organising such programmes, told Deccan Chronicle.
