Visakhapatnam: Columnist Poosala Jagaddharti hangs herself

Jagaddhatri had left her family and moved in with writer and poet Ramatirtha, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest in May.

Visakhapatnam: Well-known columnist Poosala Jagaddhatri on Saturday committed suicide by hanging herself in Vizag.

Jagaddhatri was well-known, having also written for the Andhra Bhoomi Telugu daily. Her poetry “Sahacharanam” was well received. She has translated several books from English to Telugu and vice versa.

Jagaddhatri had left her family and moved in with writer and poet Ramatirtha, who passed away due to a cardiac arrest in May. After his demise, Jagaddhatri was suffering from depression. The suicide note also conveyed the same.

Her live-in relationship with Ramatirtha had disrupted the two families; during a condolence meeting for Ramatirtha, his daughter slapped Jagaddhatri on the stage accusing the writer of driving a wedge between she and her father. Jagaddhatri’s daughter too refused to speak to her.

Jagaddhatri and Ramatirtha had fallen in love during their student days.

On Saturday, her husband Siva Prasad said that he will perform her last rites.

In one her two suicide notes, she said that she was depressed and held no one responsible for her death.

The other letter was written to Rajesh who assisted her for many days. In the letter, she has asked him to take the furniture in the home and her car. She also requested him to give all her bank documents to her husband.
