Indian Navy, Coast Guard on alert against terrorists

The police were asked to monitor the movement of ferries and boats while unit officers of the intelligence wing will sensitise fishermen.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Indian Navy and Coast Guard are maintaining high alert in the seas and coastal areas following reports that six Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists have entered Tamil Nadu from Sri Lanka to carry out attacks in the southern states, including Kerala. As per the central Intelligence Bureau warning, the six terrorists are staying in Coimbatore.

In view of the arrest of a suspected LeT contact in Kochi on Saturday, the Kerala police are also keeping vigil at bus and railway stations, airports, religious places and other sensitive areas, including the borders with Tamil Nadu.

The police were asked to monitor the movement of ferries and boats while unit officers of the intelligence wing will sensitise fishermen. The movement of vehicles and people in bordering districts will be under close scrutiny. In case of spotting suspicious objects, the public can call 112 or 0471 - 2722500.
