CRA: Parliament elections delayed de-silting works

In many places, as water had reached, works have been stopped.

THANJAVUR: Ruling out stopping of water for completion of de-silting works, Satyagopal, Commissioner for Revenue Administration (CRA) on Friday said that in fact works are scheduled in such a way that they are not a hindrance for water release.

He told presspersons at Vennalodai village where de-silting work is going on Vennar near Thanjavur that we plan the works after getting the schedule of water release from PWD.

In many places, as water had reached, works have been stopped. But in places where it will take some days for water to reach, we are doing the work.

He also denied that works were taken up late this year. As parliament elections were held, model code of conduct was in force and hence "we have to start the works ten to 15 days late".

“But to compensate this delay we are using more machinery and doing work even during night time to complete,” he said.

“You are seeing here that four machines are working. Like that a total of 115 machineries like JCB, Poclain are used to de-silt canals and rivers,” Satyagopal said.

The plan was to take 114 works under Kudimaramathu for a distance of 789 kms.

But as now water had reached some areas, only 52 works are going on for a distance of 350-km and they will be completed by this month end, the CRA said.

He said that allowing farmers to take silt from water bodies to enrich fields has benefitted large number of farmers. Government is providing all help to farmers for recharging defunct wells and bore-wells.

Thrust is given to rain water harvesting in houses, private and government buildings. All these efforts are to help farmers and the people, Satyagpopal said.
