Chennai: MTC bus turns turtle, 10 injured
Chennai: At least 10 persons were injured as an MTC bus in which they were travelling overturned in Mamandur near Madurantakam on Saturday afternoon.
The accident occurred around 3:30 pm. Police said the bus heading to Chennai was running at a high speed when the driver tried to overtake a goods van moving in front of it, leading to the accident.
Sources said the bus was near Mamandur in Madurantakam when the driver overtook a moving van, but hit it in the process, and overturned.
Passers-by and motorists came to the rescue of those trapped inside the bus. They broke the bus windshield and the passengers were rescued, added police. Police personnel from Padalam station and fire personnel came to the rescue.
Ten passengers including seven women were injured, and were taken to the Madurantakam and Chengalpattu government hospitals for treatment.
Padalam police registered a case and booked the driver under Section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 279 (rash driving on a public way) of Motor Vehicle (MV) Act.
