Thenmozhi moves Madras High Court to save Murugan's life

According to Thenmozhi, her uncle has been in prison for more than 26 years. Now, he was confined in Vellore prison.

Chennai: M. Thenmozhi, the niece of Murugan alias Sriharan, a life convict in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, has approached the Madras high court to direct the prison authorities in Vellore to save the life of Murugan as he was determined to attain Jeeva Samadhi.

The habeas corpus petition filed by Thenmozhi, which also sought a direction to Vellore prison authorities to permit her to have an interview with Murugan, is likely to come up for the hearing next week.

According to Thenmozhi, her uncle has been in prison for more than 26 years. Now, he was confined in Vellore prison. His wife Nalini, also a life convict, was confined in Vellore prison for women. As per the Tamil Nadu Prison Rules, her uncle was allowed an interview with his wife once in 15 days for about 30 minutes.

However, her uncle was denied such interview with his wife. Last year, she was allowed to interview her uncle 10 times. When she approached the prison authorities on August 22, 2017, to permit her to have an interview with her uncle, she was not allowed to meet her uncle. Therefore, she made a written representation to all the authorities requesting them to permit to see her uncle in prison.
