A click away: Online Ganesh Chaturthi pujas in demand

Committee gets requests mostly from US, Australia and Gulf countries for health and education.

Hyderabad: For the benefit of those people staying abroad, Ganesh Chaturthi pujas will continue to be conducted online.

The Khairatabad Ganesh Utsava Committee has been helping devotees staying in the US, Australia and the Gulf countries for the past few years. The committee has been flooded with requests from Non-resident Indians (NRIs), seeking slots for pujas. Raj Kumar Singar, a member of the committee, said, “Our online pujas have witnessed a spectacular growth over the years. Besides online bookings, relatives of NRIs can come directly to book pujas.”

The committee had a record number of 30,000 requests last year. This year, the figure may go up, claimed committee members. Bitra N. Rao, the website manager, said, “We receive request throughout the day and the pujas are performed in the morning. To book a puja, details like name and gothram (star), address and contact details have to be given. There is also a provision to book a puja for the well being of loved ones.”

Photographs of the puja are later uploaded on the website and also on the Facebook page of the Khairatabad Ganesh Utsava Committee. It does not end there. The committee is planning a live coverage of the puja in the near future.

The online puja is free of cost. The website of the committee is www.ganapathideva.org.
