No evidence destroyed in MK Ganapathi case: CID

Allegations made by DySP could not be established'.

Bengaluru: The CID officials have rubbished reports that crucial evidence related to DySP M.K. Ganapathi’s death case was destroyed, and claimed the investigation was carried out in an impartial manner.

An official, who was part of the CID probe into Ganapathi case, told Deccan Chronicle that the investigating team had got the said report by the Cyber Forensic Laboratory nine months ago, before the CID submitted a ‘B’ report (closure report) to the court.

“We had investigated the case from all angles and only after a thorough probe we closed the case, as no allegation made by Ganapathi against a minister and two senior IPS officers were established,” the official said.

On the allegation that several phone numbers, text messages, emails, photos and files were deleted from Ganapathi’s phone, the official said, “So what? The examination of the content in the mobile phone is important but it’s absurd to claim that evidence was destroyed because some content was deleted.

One should know that any investigator would rely on the call details report provided by the service provider and not on the call log or message log registered in a phone device, as there are chances of an accused or victim deleting names and messages themselves for various reasons,” the official added.

Further, he said that some files in the mobile phone including photos and contact numbers were deleted in Ganapathi’s phone since 2013.

“Our first job was to investigate whether there was any truth in the allegations made by the deceased against a minister and two IPS officers. And the second was to find out the reasons and circumstances that led to his suicide. We have done it professionally and closed the case with substantial documents,” he said, adding that CID would happily hand over the case files if the case is referred to the CBI.
