Bengaluru: Cantonment Metro station Ille Beku!, say Commuters
Bengaluru: Over 40 volunteers and local residents gathered at Cantonment railway station on Wednesday to seek public opinion on metro integration with train services in the context of proposed change in Cantonment metro station location.
Nearly 100% of respondents said they would like to have metro station right next to railway station for ease of access. Metro access to Cantonment station will make life easy for 40,000 daily users of Cantonment station as they come from all corners of the city.
The commuters inside the DEMU train made loud demand in unison, "Metro Station Ille Beku!" (need metro station here only).
Srinivas Alavilli of Citizens for Bengaluru (CfB) said it was heartening to see thousands of people using suburban train services to Whitefield and Karmela Ram from the same platform where 1,500 people took the train for #ChukuBukuBeku campaign in January.
Most people are unaware of the upcoming metro station locations and expressed surprise that such decisions are being made without seeking public opinion, he added.
One of the survey respondents B. Sreenath, a PhD student at IISc and a daily commuter to Karmela Ram, said, “I wish commuter feedback is taken seriously while designing public transport system. We need to make public transport a pleasurable experience and seamless integration is key, I appreciate CfB's efforts to make our voices heard.”
