Hi-tech saffronist BS Yeddyurappa holds video meet with district bosses

Bengaluru: Toeing Prime Minister Narendra Modi's line on creating a Digital India, the state BJP’s IT cell, which was revamped recently, is working on connecting all the party’s district units digitally, increasing the use of social media to reach out to more people and also promote video conferencing among state leaders.

Besides using the Internet, the cell plans to now use SMSes in a big way as well to help the party reach common people, who are not on smart phones. Its other plans include upgrading the website of the party and creating a database of beneficiaries of Central schemes in all districts.

Updates on the working of the Central schemes would also be received using the connectivity, according to an office bearer of the cell.

That it is helping the party function better was evident on Wednesday as state BJP chief, B S Yeddyurappa made use of the video conferencing facility provided by it, to hold a meeting with the party’s district office bearers, asking them to keep the Amnesty International issue alive in the districts, make a success of the Tiranga Yatra and build the party’s own offices in every district.

Joining him in the video chat were party general secretary, C T Ravi and senior leader and Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP, Shobha Karandlaje.

Making it clear that he expected the BJP to have its own buildings in all districts, Mr Yeddyurappa told the office bearers to find sites and build the offices in districts that did not have them at present. He also wanted their suggestions on ways to keep the Amnesty International issue alive, according to sources.
