Flood victims of Wazedu mandal await government aid
Warangal: Flood victims in villages under Wazedu mandal of Mulugu district are apprehensive of missing out on government aid, as only 758 families out of 970 families affected by floods were considered by the revenue department in its final report.
Residents of several villages, namely Nagaram, Chikupally, Pedda Gollegudem, Kadekal, Krishnapura, Tekulagudem, Chandrupatla, and Bommanapally, approached the public representatives and the zilla parishad territorial constituency chief Pushpalatha for including those left out.
Most of the villages were submerged due to the overflow from the Godavari river during the incessant rains over the past fortnight.
However, heavy rains over the past two days have once again left the residents on edge, as the water level of Godavari at Peruru village reportedly rose over the past two days, reaching a height of 12.49 metres as of Sunday.
Besides the threat of flooding, daily life was also hit as roads continued to be submerged under water or caving in due to heavy downpours.
A low-lying bridge on NH-163 at Tekulagudem village, bordering Chhattisgarh, has severely hit interstate movement. People from Chhattisgarh, meanwhile, were seen crossing the bridge on foot to avail of medical services at the hospital in Perur.
