Tirupati: Police produced a 6-member gang involved in manufacturing and circulating fake currency before the mediapersons in Chittoor on Wednesday.

The police had apprehended the gang and seized fake notes to the tune of Rs 98,000 in Kuppam on Tuesday.

A police team, led by Kuppam Rural CI M.R. Krishna Mohan and Ramakuppam SI G. Prasada Rao, seized the fake notes from K. Manikandan and K. Kubendran at Vijalapuram village of Ramakuppam mandal on Tuesday evening.

The team launched a search for the duo after they tried to exchange a counterfeit Rs 200 note in a small shop at Veeranagapuram village in Ramakuppam mandal on Tuesday morning.

Based on the confession of the duo during interrogation, the police arrested other members of the gang, including

H. Anantha Kumar, 33, of Samagattupalli, M. Suresh Kumar, 23, of Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu, Devireddy Suresh Reddy, 31, and B. Hemanth, 26, of Tirupati.

Chittoor SP Ch. Venkata Appala Naidu said that the gang was printing the notes in Ananta Kumar's house at Samaguttapalli in Kuppam mandal. They have been circulating the notes in the neighbouring states. The four members of the gang were held when they were printing the notes at Samaguttupalli.

The SP said they seized Rs 2,76,22,000 fake notes, three computers, two laptops and two printers, apart from equipment used for making the fake notes. The accused have been sent to remand after they were produced in the court in Chittoor on Wednesday.

The SP announced rewards to Mr Krishna Mohan and Mr Prasada Rao and their team for nabbing the gang.
