Thiruvananthapuram: Special drive from August to clear pending files

The CM said a total of 1.21 lakh files are pending across 37 government departments.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Wednesday said that the government would launch a three month special drive to clear all pending files in Secretariat and other departments.

At the Cabinet briefing here, the chief minister said as per the assessment carried out in April, a total of 1.21 lakh files are pending across 37 government departments. The special drive from August 1 to October 3 will be conducted under the direct supervision of department secretaries, heads of department, regional and district heads.

The Cabinet also announced incentive for departments and officers who clear the maximum number of files. "Good service entry will be given to the department and officers for outstanding performance," the chief minister said.

The government has decided to create a permanent mechanism for file movement and file monitoring in Secretariat and other departments. It will intervene regularly in such matters to strengthen the file clearance and service delivery mechanism.

The chief minister said the complaints and grievances of the people would be given top priority. The effort is to redress the grievances promptly. All compliant and grievances pending before the departments would be settled by August 31. In case if issues remain still pending after the deadline, the minsters concerned would intervene personally and find a solution.

The grievance redressal system will also be a permanent mechanism. A meeting of IAS officers, deputy secretaries and above will be convened shortly to discuss the grievance redressal mechanism.
