MLA Eldho Abraham releases visuals of caning

The collector visited the MLA on Wednesday and took his statement about the incident.

KOCHI: Eldho Abraham, CPI MLA from Muvattupuzha, handed over the visuals of the police beating him to the Ernakulam district collector on Wednesday. The collector has been asked by the chief minister to submit a report on the incident.

The MLA, convalescing in a private hospital in Kochi, released the pictures from a mobile phone to the media showing the sub-inspector of the central police station beating him with a cane. He said this was the reply to those asking for evidence of the police lathicharge against the CPI workers in Kochi on Tuesday.

The collector visited the MLA on Wednesday and took his statement about the incident. The collector said he will prepare the report based on the statements of those who suffered the beating, CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. He also collected the details from the doctors and said the report will be submitted within four days.

The Vypeen area committee of the CPM issued a statement on Wednesday denying the allegations levelled by the CPI against the CPM and SFI in connection with the incidents at the Elamkunapuzha Government College. Denying the charges that CPM-DYFI workers blocked CPI district secretary P. Raju, the statement asked the CPI leadership to end the controversy.
