KOLLAM: Happy news for the foodies in Kollam - the food delivery app 'Swiggy' has now joined hands with Kollam sub-jail for online catering of food prepared by jailbirds. A number of food items from the jail will be delivered through the app under 'freedom combo' pack at a reasonable price.
The freedom combo includes chicken biriyani, chapathi, chicken curry, halwa, and a bottle of hilly aqua packaged drinking water supplied by the jail department. These food items, sufficient for two persons, would only cost Rs. 125, which is much less when compared to food prices in the market.
The inauguration of combo items was held in the jail premises by S. Santhosh, Jail DIG. "The food item from jail remains the one that has not increased its price for the last six years. With the introduction of combo pack, we intend to deliver good quality food to the public," Mr. Santhosh added.
The combo pack will maintain exact quantity of food - 500 gms of chicken biriyani, three chapathis, 150 gms of chicken curry, one piece of carrot halwa or kinnathappam, a kind of rice pudding, and the water bottle contains a liter of drinking water. Kollam thus becomes the second district to implement freedom combo food pack after Viyyur jail.
The freedom combo pack will be introduced in Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam in the near future. The Kollam jail also has the sale of food items over the counter and mobile units, and is much appreciated by the food lovers.
