Kurnool: The First Annual Convocation of the Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing (IIITDM), Kurnool, is scheduled to be held on August 5, 2019. E.S.L. Narasimhan, Governor of Andhra Pradesh, was invited to be the Chief Guest. The Institute came into being by an Act of Parliament in 2014 after bifurcation of the state.
However, with Biswabhusan Harichandan being appointed as the new Governor of Andhra Pradesh, a piquant situation has arisen for the administrators of Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing: who should be the chief guest, the old governor or the new one?
A source at the Indian Institute of Information Technology Design and Manufacturing said that since the convocation was the first one after the establishment of the institute in 2016, it is right and honourable to invite the new Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan for the convocation even though Mr Narasimhan has given his consent to grace the occasion.
BJP leaders in Kurnool said that it is appropriate to invite the AP governor for the convocation of an institute in Andhra Pradesh. If ESL Narasimhan also attends, it is a bonus for students and would be remembered by posterity, they said.
