Bengaluru: SIT turns heat on R Roshan Baig , BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan
Bengaluru: A day after Congress-JD(S) coalition government was defeated in trust vote, trouble is mounting for two Congress MLAs - B.Z. Zameer Ahmed Khan and R. Roshan Baig in connection with the multi-crore I Monetary Advisory (IMA) investment scam.
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the scam, running into over Rs 4,000 crore, has issued summons to Zameer, who represents Chamarajpet, and Baid, who represents Shivajinagar.
While Baig was earlier summoned for questioning by the SIT, Zameer was summoned for the first time in connection by the SIT. Zameer, however, was earlier questioned by Enforcement Directorate (ED) over a transaction between him and IMA group MD Mohammed Mansoor Khan, the prime accused.
“Baig and Zameer have been summoned for questioning in connection with the IMA scam. The MLA have been asked to appear before the SIT on July 29,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) and SIT chief Dr B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda confirmed.
Police sources said that Baig and Zameer were summoned after one of the arrested accused named the two MLAs.
Before fleeing the country Mansoor Khan had on June 7 released an audio clipping accusing Baig of not returning ` 400 crore he had borrowed from him.
The SIT had detained Baig from Kempegowda International Airport on July 15 and released him the next morning after directing him to appear before the SIT on July 19. Baig had appeared for questioning and submitted relevant documents to the SIT.
Meanwhile, Mansoor Khan who is in ED custody is being interrogated about IMA's transactions with other companies and individuals since its inception in 2006.
