Hyderabad police to tighten vigil along new Merto line
Hyderabad: The city police is planning to conduct a massive awareness campaign in the surroundings of the Metro Rail as a precautionary measure before the LB Nagar-Ameerpet service is flagged off.
There are several highrises along the route. “Details of the commercial establishments along the route will be noted down along with the owners and security in-charges of the premises,” said additional DCP (West) M. Venkateshwarlu.
“Special emphasis is on the stretches near the Legislative Assembly and the police chief's office. There are also important government offices and high security offices along the route,” a police official said.
“There are two reasons for enumeration. One is long-term security measures and the other is a preventive measure. Our aim is to ensure that anti-social elements do not take advantage of the Metro services,” said the official.
The government had proposed to set up a 2,000-strong force on lines of the government railway police for the Metro Rail security. “We have also asked the government to identify a private security expert to take care of protection and surveillance,” said an official who is part of the Metro Rail security.
