Dug-up Kondapur roads become accident prone
Hyderabad: A motorist fell off from his bike after riding into an unguarded trench at Raghavendra Colony in Kondapur. Techie Saketh Vadamodula who was returning home from work on Thursday at 12:30am, crashed his vehicle near an unguarded pot hole on the road. Not only does the Raghavendra Colony have high tension lines but it also has dangerous potholes. The accident left the techie with a hairline fracture and several injuries.
Despite repeated requests from commuters, the road which connects Kondapur to the Botanical Gardens doesn't have street lights and is insensitively dug up. It was a two-lane road which is being converted into a four-lane road by the GHMC projects team. Of the 2 km road, GHMC officials took up work on only 1.6 km, because of land acquisition issues. Work on 1 km road has been completed while it is still being done on the 500 metres.
Mr. Vadamodula, the accident victim, who has been a resident of Raghavendra Colony for the last 5 years said, “I have seen the road evolve from a mud road to the concrete one it is in today. The road which was laid recently was dug up again leaving unguarded pot holes. As the road via RTO office is congested, a lot of IT employees use this route which connects us to Botanical Gardens road. It is pitch dark and then there is dog menace too. To avoid falling into the trench, I had to skid my bike on the debris left behind due to the digging. My helmet protected me that day.”
According to GHMC official, “It is a 2-lane road which we are converting into a 4-lane road. There is no camber (cross slope) so now we are making it Indian Road Congress (IRC) standard. To make the road into motorable condition, we are working on the existing road because of which people are facing inconvenience. If we do not do it, we cannot form a standard road which will lead to delay of another one year.”
As a precautionary measure, signs will be put up by the GHMC.
