Cops, politicians and celebrities take up 'Green Challenge'

As part of the challenge, people are urged to plant three saplings in the next 10 days and nurture them for three years.

Hyderabad: Each day several challenges are coming up on Twitter to spread awareness. This time it is Hara Hai To Bhara Hai A Green India Challenge organised by Igniting Minds as a tribute to former president and scientist Dr APJ Abdul Kalam.

As part of the challenge, people are urged to plant three saplings in the next 10 days and nurture them for three years. They should also pass the challenge to three of their acquaintances to continue the chain.

An official of the Igniting Minds said, "The trees so planted are geo tagged and will be kept under observation for three years. Every person who accepts challenge and plants three saplings will honoured as a Vanamali."

The challenge has been taken up by several politicians and celebrities, including K. Kavitha Rao, Ch Malla Reddy, Saina Nehwal and S.S. Rajamouli. Mr.Rajamouli who accepted the challenge on Tuesday after it was passed on to him by Ms Kavitha Rao planted banyan, gulmohar and neem saplings. He then passed on the challenge to urban development minister K.T. Rama Rao, badminton coach Pullela Gopichand and film directors Vanga Sandeep and Nag Ashwin.

Ms Saina Nehwal planted three saplings and shared the picture on Twitter after she was challenged by Ms Kavitha Rao. Cyberabad police commissioner V.C. Sajjanar and his Rachakonda counterpart Mahesh Bagwat also took up the challenge, and the latter passed it on to Hyderabad commissioner Anjani Kumar and actor Mahesh Babu.

MP Malla Reddy planted three saplings after the challenge was thrown at him by Medchal collector M.V. Reddy.
