Apex court pulls up Centre over Lokpal appointment

Attorney General K.K. Venugopal informed the court that the government has not finalised the names.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday pulled up the Centre for the inordinate delay in the appointment of ‘search committee’ for the selection of Lokpal. A Bench of Justices Ranjan Gogoi, Ms. R. Banumathi and Navin Sinha hearing a Contempt petition filed by Common Cause, expressed dissatisfaction over the affidavit filed by the Centre without specifying any time scheduled for the appointment of Lokpal and other Members.

Attorney General K.K. Venugopal informed the court that the government has not finalised the names for the search committee and it would be appointed in the next meeting.
