Scorching heat to torment Chennai for next two days
Chennai: While the entire state remained dry with no drop of rain on Monday, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) had some bad news. The weather department forecast the prevalence of above normal temperatures for the next two to three days for the state.
Abnormal temperatures were witnessed in most parts of the state due to the absence of moisture content in the atmosphere.
According to the data from Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Madurai recorded 41.6 degrees Celsius on Monday, noting as the hottest station for the day. Vellore and Tiruttani noted 39.9 degrees and 40.4 degrees, which is 3 and 3.5 degrees above the normal temperature.
The situation in Chennai was no different as dry heat was gripping in both the stations with Chennai’s Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam stations receiving 38.9 and 38.7 degrees, which is 3.8 and 3.3 degrees above normal July temperature.
Officials from the RMC said scorching heat is due to weak monsoon at west coast, which reduced the moisture content. It is also due to the less cloud cover and the atmosphere is in a suppressed phase now, the officials said, adding that there is a possibility of convective rains, they said.
