Hyderabad: Rejecting the argument put forth by Congress MPs Digvijay Singh, Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao and YSRCP MP V. Vijay Sai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha on Monday, Union Minister of State for Water Resources Dr Sanjeev Kumar Balyan said there is no need to bring an amendment facilitating the construction of the Polavaram Multipurpose National Project by the government of AP. The Centre has entrusted the job to AP as per the recommendation of Niti Aayog. The minister also promised to allot another Rs 1,000 crore within 20 days for Polavaram works.

Earlier, Digvijay Singh had told the minister that as per the AP Reorganisation Act, the Polavaram project was declared a national project and as such only the Centre should execute the work.

Dr K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao who put the question said the AP government was unable to execute works properly and it is for the Centre to take up construction.
