Mandya farmers: KRS getting good inflow, give us water now
Mysuru: With good inflow into the KRS reservoir in Mandya and the release of water from Harangi reservoir in Kodagu, after it filled up to its maximum capacity, farmers in Mandya and other places are demanding the release of water for crops.
From January this year till July 24, Kodagu has recorded 1173.05 mm of rain while last year during the same period, it recorded 1125.86 mm. With good rains in Kodagu over the past one week, Harangi reservoir reached its maximum capacity on Sunday. On Monday, the level stood at 2857.65 feet as against its capacity of 2859 feet. All its four crest gates were opened and as much as 1200 cusecs of water is being released into the river leading to KRS dam. Harangi has become the first reservoir in the state to get filled this year.
At KRS the inflow on Monday was 7379 cusecs while the outflow into the river leading to Tamil Nadu was 3960 cusecs. The reservoir level stood at 88.45 feet as against its capacity of 124.80 feet.
At Kabini, the inflow was 6650 cusecs because of good rain in Wyanad with 6,000 cusecs released into the river leading to Tamil Nadu. The water level stood at 2,274.06 feet as against its capacity of 2,284 feet on Monday.
At Hemavathi, the water level stood at 2,888.65 feet as against its capacity of 2,922 feet. While the inflow was 6784 cusecs due to good rains in Chikkamagaluru, the outflow was 150 cusecs.
Farmers led by leaders of the Raitha Sangha staged a rasta roko for a while in Srirangapatna and Mandya urging release of water for crops. Farmers at Nanjangud, while demanding water for crops from Kabini reservoir, staged a rasta roko near Kapila bridge.
