Indian Nursing Council can't recognise nursing colleges: Karnataka High Court

The HC also restrained INC from publishing on its website asking institutions to obtain recognition from it.

Bengaluru: Karnataka High Court on Monday held that the Indian Nursing Council (INC) has no authority to grant recognition to nursing colleges in the state. The court passed the order, while allowing a batch of petitions citing several orders of SC and HC, which have held that the INC has no right to grant recognition to nursing colleges.

The HC also restrained INC from publishing on its website asking institutions to obtain recognition from it. The petitioner association argued that as per law, the INC has the authority to decide about qualification and other issues, while the state government and its affiliated universities have the right to grant recognition to institutions.

PIL over Indira Canteen
The High Court on Monday ordered notices to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, its tree officer, BDA commissioner and KPTCL Managing Director, following a PIL over palike's move to build Indira Canteen at the mini-forest area adjacent to the KPTCL office in Rajajinagar 3rd Block. The petitioners, Geetha Misra, and 4 other, have approached the court saying that several trees within the mini-forest were chopped to build the canteen. The trees were removed despite the Forest Department asking the BDA to conserve it as a forest area.

PIL against indoor stadium
The HC ordered a notice to the State following a PIL against conversion of a playground into indoor stadium in Indidaranagar 1st Stage. The petitioners state that it is the only open public ground in the area and that children from surrounding use the playground for over 45 years and constructing the indoor stadium would deny them the only open public playground.
