Seven killed, 30 injured as bus, truck collide in Krishnagiri
Krishnagiri: A truck driver who failed to follow basic traffic norms has been responsible for the death of at least seven persons including two women in a gory mishap in which a private bus rammed into a truck in Tamil Nadu’s Krishnagiri district on Sunday.
The ill-fated bus, transporting passengers from Krishnagiri to Hosur was at Sundagiri village, near Shoolagiri on the Chennai-Bengaluru national highway when it rammed into the truck, police said.
However, according to eyewitnesses, the mishap happened because of the negligence of the truck driver who failed to follow traffic norms. “I saw the truck that turned at the intersection road and moved in the wrong direction to reach the granite factory on the national highway in our village” 30-year-old Rathna of Sundagiri told DC.
She added “The bus driver who operated the vehicle at a high speed tried to avoid hitting the truck and turned the vehicle to his right but the left side of the bus rammed against the truck leading to the accident”
As many as seven bus passengers including two women who were seated in the front portion of the bus died on the spot and 30 others were critically injured. The local people conducted the rescue operations before the police and others could reach the place.
At least five dead bodies including one that of a woman has been kept in the Hosur government hospital mortuary, waiting for relatives to identify the victims.
Two more bodies are in the Krishnagiri government hospital mortuary.
