Meena Kandasamy’s new book ignites high expectations

Meena too had things to say on her twitter handle about her latest work.

Chennai: The multitude of fans and followers of good writing that’s also soul-searing are now excited by the announcement of British publisher, ‘Atlantic Books’, that it’s bringing out the next literary work of Meena Kandasamy, titled, ‘Exquisite Cadavers’.

While the publisher says the book will be out on November 7 this year, those who have been lucky to read the draft are raving about this third book by Chennai’s poet-writer-activist. Her first work, ‘The Gypsy Goddess’ (2014) was about the Kil-venmani massacre while the second book, ‘When I Hit You: Or, A Portrait of the Writer as a Young Wife’ was shortlisted for the Women’s Prize 2018.

“As we wait to hear who has won this year’s @WomensPrize, we are beyond thrilled to reveal the proof of #ExquisiteCadavers, the extraordinary novella by last year’s shortlistee @meenakandasamy. Out 07.11.19”, said the tweet posted by Atlantic Book.

And noted author Sandeep Parmar, who was among the few lucky ones to read the book pre-release said it was “such a joy to read it” and described the work as “incredible - formally innovative, linguistically sharp, hugely complex, beautifully written and engaged with ethics and politics to its core”.

The announcement by Atlantic Books and the word of admiration tweeted by Sandeep Parmar, the British poet-writer-English professor, saw a long string of posts on twitter from the literary world expressing ‘joy’ and ‘excitement’, and also a bit of disappointment they have to still wait for four months before being able to grab it from the bookstore or order online-many have already expressed interest to the publisher.

Meena too had things to say on her twitter handle about her latest work. “Some writing news from me”, said the author, adding her ‘confession’ that she is “in love with that cover”.

True, the cover does look quite interesting, even intriguing.
