Abdullakutty calls on Narendra Modi, Amit Shah; gets ‘invite’ to join BJP

He told reporters in New Delhi that both had invited him to the BJP.

Thiruvananthapuram: A. P. Abdullakutty on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.

He told reporters in New Delhi that both had invited him to the BJP.

He had to face expulsion from the CPM and later Congress for his praise for Mr Modi, first in 2009 when he was the chief minister of Gujarat for his development initiatives.

The latest punishment was after the national elections when he took to the Facebook to eulogise Mr Modi for his pro-poor policies.

After the meetings in their parliament offices, he was cautious to the reporter’s queries saying he would let them know when he would join the BJP.

“I need to think about it, and without much delay, I will take an appropriate decision," said the two-time CPM lawmaker and two-time Congress legislator.

"PM Modi also congratulated me for taking part in the international yoga day celebrations. He was keen to bridge the gap with minorities.”
