A Science City in Mysuru: G Parameshwar

Bengaluru: Deputy Chief Minister Dr G. Parameshwar on Monday announced that cultural city of Mysuru will get a Science City, which will be funded jointly by the central and the state governments.

After meeting Suttur Math seer Shivaratri Deshikendra Swamiji, who has offered 25 acres of land for the project, Mr Parameshwar, who is also IT-BT minister, said that a proposal has been sent to the Centre for approval.

He was speaking after visiting the site proposed by the JSS Mahavidyapeetha and meeting the officials.

The Union government introduced the Science City concept, which will come up at a cost of Rs 200 crore in Mysuru, and it will be the biggest such setup in South India, he said.

To make students get interested in science, such centres are being set up in every district. The work has started in Mangaluru and Davangere, while it will begin in the rest of 19 districts, he said.

The Science City will benefit Mysuru. It will have an earth galaxy, solar system and others attraction for students, he said. Expenses towards the construction will be shared equally by state and central governments. The construction is expected to be completed in five years, but efforts will be made to finish it within three years, he said.
