Brothers try to immolate self near KH Muniyappa's house
Bengaluru: A high drama prevailed in front of the residence of former union minister K.H. Muniyappa in Sanjaynagar after two brothers tried to immolate themselves, accusing the senior Congress leader of not helping them in a property dispute.
Mr Muniyappa called the incident politically motivated and an attempt to tarnish his reputation. The drama began around 11 am when Mr Muniyappa was about to leave the house. The two brothers – Srinivas Raj and Muniraj, residents of Venkatala in Yelahanka – had gone to Mr Muniyappa’s house and picked up a quarrel with him. They tore their clothes, accused him of cheating them and tried to immolate themselves.
The police, who were alerted, took them to the police station. The brothers told the police that K.V. Ramprasad, who is close to Mr Muniyappa, had forged documents of their one-and-a-half acres of land.
A case was filed against Ramprasad in 2007 and the Yelahanka police had submitted a report to the court.
The brother said that they kept meeting Mr Muniyappa, who assured them of resolving the issue after talking to Ramprasad. But, they alleged, Mr Muniyappa, instead of helping them, favoured Ramaprasad by registering the property in his name.
Mr Muniyappa said, “They met me and asked me to solve the dispute. As the matter is in court, I had asked them to wait.” The Sanjaynagar police said that no case was registered. Mr Muniyappa spoke to the family members of the brothers and assured them of all help in the property dispute. The brothers then left, the police said.
