HMDA allowed to pool land for Outer Ring Road

The HMDA had earlier pooled over 700 acres of land at Uppal Bhagath and successfully distributed plots to its owners.

Hyderabad: The HMDA got the nod from the government to go ahead for land pooling at the Outer Ring Road growth corridor that stretches up to one km on either side of ORR. This decision will help the urban body save Rs 5,000 crore on land acquisition costs for constructing grid roads in the growth corridor.

The urban body has drawn up plans to build two grid roads — one at 500 metre and the second one a km away from the ORR on either side — to connect the service roads so that commuters staying in the nearby areas can easily reach the main stretches.

Although areas in the growth corridor and beyond are witnessing quick development, lack of road connectivity till the ORR is proving to be a disadvantage. The grid roads were planned to fill this gap. The urban body also built radial roads to connect inner ring roads with ORR.

Although the HMDA sought permission for land pooling up to 3 km on either side of the ORR, government gave consent for 2 km. The urban body will be reaching out to property owners to pool big area of land which it will develop with its own cost to lay facilities like roads, drinking and drainage connections, parks, power lines.

The developed plots will be handed over to owners according to the land given, while some portion will be retained by the HMDA.

The HMDA had earlier pooled over 700 acres of land at Uppal Bhagath and successfully distributed plots to its owners.

HMDA commissioner T. Chiranjeevulu said that land pooling would help them construct grid roads without having to spend on land acquisition.

It is learnt that HMDA will be taking up this land pooling initiative on a pilot basis on Keesara–Ghatkesar stretch in the coming months.
