Cyberabad police books case on borewell owner

About 10 days ago, Malla Reddy opened the cover and lowered a motor into the borewell to check for water availability.

Hyderabad: Two days after 16-month-old Chinnari fell into an abandoned borewell, Cyberabad police registered a case against land owner T. Malla Reddy under IPC Section 336 for endangering life or personal safety of others. Malla Reddy is now absconding.

The one-acre piece of land at Ikkareddyguda tanda in Chevella, is said to be owned by Malla Reddy’s father Tulsannala Ramireddy. After his father became old, Malla Reddy was developing the land.

He took permission to build a polyhouse for horticulture on the land, but had no permission for the borewell which he dug more than a year ago. Police found that he did not find any water in the borewell, closed and abandoned it.

About 10 days ago, Malla Reddy opened the cover and lowered a motor into the borewell to check for water availability.

The absconding Malla Reddy could not find water but left the motor in the well and did not close it. Chinnari fell into it on Thursday.

Police found two more borewells on the same piece of land. Malla Reddy had not taken permission even for these two borewells.

According to sources from the revenue department, no borewell in Chanuvelly has permission from the government.
