Bengaluru: Protest backing Gorkhaland held
Bengaluru: The city witnessed its second protest meeting in a week supporting the demand for Gorkhaland at Freedom Park on Saturday. Around 150 people, mainly from Gorkha community residing in Bengaluru, took part in the protest.
The shouted slogans in favour of Gorkhaland followed by discussions on topics like lack of development in Darjeeling and adjoining towns. The events in Darjeeling have evoked anxiety among Gorkhas residing in Bengaluru. "This meeting is to convey and to show the people back home that we are with them, supporting the movement, irrespective of the distance," said Sailendra Dewan, who works in Bengaluru.
The people gathered also stated that they were not targeting any individuals or a specific community. Their fight was against the policies of West Bengal Government. The gathering was addressed by Rahul Rai, President, NEP Foundation, who also led the protest on Tuesday. The event concluded with paying tributes to the three people who died during protests at Darjeeling.
