Leaders flout rules, public cry foul
KARIMNAGAR: With elected representatives of people themselves resorting to violation of lockdown rules, the police, government officials and common public seem to be at their wits’ end in the undivided Karimnagar district.
Not only people’s representatives, but also their relatives are throwing cautions to the wind and are going against the Covid norms, causing troubles to officials of police department who are discharging their duties risking their lives in the pandemic situation.
As per the orders issued by the state government, police officials are implementing the lockdown rules strictly without sparing anyone who are violating the norms. They are imposing fines and seizing vehicles of those who are venturing out of homes without valid reasons.
At Dubbapally checkpost in Sultanabad mandal of Peddapalli district on Sunday, the police stopped a vehicle which belongs to one of the relatives of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) Peddapalli MLA, Dasari Manohar Reddy, after the lockdown relaxation hours and asked him the reason why he came out at odd hours of lockdown.
The person who introduced himself as Dasari Anji Reddy, a relative of Peddapalli MLA, informed the police first that he was a farmer and was going to sell the produce and when questioned about the produce and about e-pass, he said he was returning from a wedding ceremony. When asked about the wedding invitation card, he could not show it to the police.
Anji Reddy then asked the police to impose a fine which he would pay and then leave, warning them not to stop him saying that he did not have patience to wait until they completed their procedures. Apart from that, he indulged in heated arguments with the police officials and started abusing them and threatened that he would use his political influence against them. Meanwhile, the higher officials who reached the spot asked the policemen on duty to note the number and later let him go as he was creating a ruckus on the road.
In another incident of lockout rules violation, Backward Class Welfare minister Gangula Kamalakar held a press meet after the relaxation hours at about 12.30 pm in a hotel, that too without following the Covid rules. More than 20 leaders sat at one place to hold the press meet without maintaining physical distance. The press meet was not meant to convey a message in the best interest of the public but was related to the party’s internal issue.
Recently, Choppadandi MLA Sunke Ravi Shankar held a mass gathering to distribute Kalyana Lakshmi and Chief Minister Relief Fund cheques to beneficiaries violating the Covid rules.
The Congress leaders even lodged a complaint in the police station against the MLA, urging to register the case under Contagious Disease Act and Disaster Management Act for violating rules.
People alleged that when the leaders who must create awareness among the public about taking precautionary steps to prevent the spread of Coronavirus, themselves were violating the rules, then how could they ask the common people to follow them. A rule is rule for all, the government must take some initiative and should issue strict orders to take action against such leaders also, they demanded.
