Modi scare led to UDF win, says P Jayarajan

The Congress had campaigned saying that a victory for the Congress was essential to check Modi and BJP.

Kozhikode:The voters turned towards the UDF due to the 'Modi scare' and not because of any anti-Left wave, according to CPM leader P. Jayarajan who was defeated by Congress leader K. Muraleedharan in Vatakara.

He told reporters here on Friday that the Congress had created a false hope among the voters that it would form a government at the centre by defeating the BJP.

The Congress had campaigned saying that a victory for the Congress was essential to check Modi and BJP. "The minorities fell in this trap," he added. "Congress was spreading a lie," he said and pointed out that only the Left is a reliable secular force in the country. He claimed that there was an increase of 30,000 votes for the LDF.

It may be recalled that Jayarajan, former district secretary of Kannur, had faced stiff resistance from RMPI, the rebel political group formed by T.P. Chandrasekharan, who was murdered by pro-CPM gangsters. The RMPI workers had campaigned against him alleging he had plotted the murder.
