Soon, book railway tickets by scanning QR code
Chennai: In a bid to extend the digitalized booking of unreserved train tickets, the Southern Railway has decided to develop the facility of booking tickets by scanning QR Code at railway stations soon.
Explaining about the Southern Railway’s initiatives of selling tickets on digital platforms, Priamvada Viswanathan, chief commercial manager, said that Southern Railway has achieved 67 per cent PRS (passenger reservation system) ticket bookings. “Other parts of the country have achieved only 20 per cent of PRS booking,” she told mediapersons.
She also added that, on average 50,000 passengers use UTS (unreserved ticketing system) mobile application to book the tickets daily. “The railway also announced 5 per cent bonus for the passengers who recharge their R-wallet. To buy unreserved train tickets, other payment gateways except R-wallet cannot be used,” she said.
Meanwhile, Priamvada Viswanathan said that the QR codes would be placed at various locations at the railway stations to enable hassle-free ticket bookings.
Responding to a query, she explained that passengers who have booked tickets through UTS mobile application might tell their registered mobile number if their phone runs out of charge during their journey. “They need not take printouts. The TTEs have been provided with a mobile application by which they can check the passengers’ details. But the passengers should make sure their phone remain charged while checking to avoid delay and confusions,” she added.
