17,000 RTE applications withheld for lack of docus
Chennai: After scrutiny of over 1.28 lakh applications for the seats reserved under Right to Education Act, the district authorities withheld 17,800 applications for lack of documents and also removed 6,000 duplicate applications.
The parents were informed through SMS about the missing documents and they could approach the schools with necessary certificates and documents to participate in the admission process.
The lot system for RTE admissions was postponed to May 28 from May 23.
“Due to the overwhelming response for the RTE admissions, the officials sought more time to scrutinize applications. Hence the lot system for the admissions is postponed to May 28,” said S.Kannappan, director of matriculation schools.
Apart from Thoothukudi district, the lot system for RTE admissions will be held in all other districts.
The Directorate of matriculation schools also gave elaborate guidelines on how to hold the lot system in schools which have received more applications than the available seats.
As per the direction, the schools have to give preference for orphans, differently-abled children, children of sanitary workers, HIV infected children. For the remaining seats alone, the schools have to conduct lot system.
The schools also were asked to prepare a list of students who are living within one km radius of the school. They also need to prepare a waiting list with five students. After the allotment, the list had to be signed by two parents, school education department official and school principal.
The list has to be displayed on the same evening on school notice boards.
As per the act, at least 25 percent of the seats at entry level classes (LKG and class 1) in private schools need to be reserved for children who are hailing from economically and socially disadvantaged sections.
Around one lakh seats are available under this quota in over 10,000 private schools across the state.
