Former Kerala CM Oommen Chandy questions CAG report

Mr Chandy said the CAG had overlooked some facts.

Thiruvananthapuram: Former chief minister Oommen Chandy has denied that his government had done anything in favour of the Adani group to implement the Vizhinjam project.

“There was nothing wrong in giving it the contract and decision was not taken unilaterally,” he told reporters here on Wednesday.

His clarification came in response to the CAG report and the allegation levelled by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in the Assembly on the project. Mr Chandy said the CAG had overlooked some facts.

“After sanctioning the contract, no changes were made in it. There was no corruption in extending the duration of the project to 40 years. In fact it is the period of construction which would come to 40 years,” said Mr Chandy.

“The Vizhinjam project can’t be compared with the Colachel port where the estimate is yet to be readied. Tendering is also yet to start on the Colachel port. There is no truth in the report that Colachel port will be cheaper compared to Vizhinjam,” he said.
