Chennai doctors welcome Madras HC stay on Neet results
Chennai: Doctors’ associations, parents and doctors, on Wednesday, welcomed the interim stay granted by the Madurai bench of the Madras HC on the release of National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (Neet) UG examination results.
Stating that when the exam was announced, it was said that all languages would have the same questions, Dr G. Ravindranath of the Doctors’ Association for Social Equality said, “It was shocking to learn that the questions in Gujarati were much easier than those in other languages, especially Bengali. The Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE’s) attitude in this regard is condemnable. Demands like that of cancellation of the exam arose. We, therefore, welcome the stay order.”
It may be noted that amidst controversies, including question papers in various languages, the petitioner had prayed for an interim injunction against the declaration of results based on the Neet, stating that the present evaluation system is contrary and in violation of Article 14 of the Constitution.
Recalling the cancellation of the Common Entrance Test in Haryana in 2015, a source said, “There was no concept of equality in the question papers. It is unfair to confuse the students.”
With a notice on the issue having been sent to the CBSE and the Medical Council of India (MCI), they commented that they are looking into the
matter.
“No action was taken despite the fact that we kept expressing our agitation. Are they waiting for the results to be out before action is taken?” questioned Janani M, a candidate.
