Andhra Pradesh: Women risk lives for a pail of water

The acute shortage of drinking water forced the women to walk the 1 km distance under the hot sun crossing the National Highway.

Gudihathnoor (Adilabad): Some women are facing threat of life while crossing the NH-44 to collect drinking water from a village located on other side of the highway.

Women of Ganeshnagar village are going to Sainagar, crossing National Highway in Gudihathnoor mandal in Adilabad district.

The four bore wells dug in the past have become defunct in Ganeshnagar and now women and children are making their way to Sainagar every morning and evening to collect water from the lone borewell working there.

The acute shortage of drinking water forced the women to walk the 1 km distance under the hot sun crossing the National Highway.

There are no rivulets and streams on the outskirts of these villages in Mannur gram panchayat and people of both these villages now depend on the only working bore well.

Chandrabai of Ganeshnagar said they face a risk to their life from vehicles while crossing the NH-44 twice a day but they have no another option.
