Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme wet run successful

82 mega heavy duty motors installed at Kaleshwaram.

Peddapalli: The Telangana state government’s prestigious Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) reached another milestone on Wednesday, when having completed the project in record time, a wet run between Sripada Yellampali reservoir and mid-Manair was successful.

Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), Smitha Sabharwal, and government advisory member Penta Reddy offered prayers before the wet run was conducted at Nandi Medaram in Peddapalli district.

The Telangana state government wants to supply water to farmers for irrigation purposes before the rainy season begins. A trial run was conducted on April 17. Water was released from Sripada Yellampalli reservoir to facilitate the wet run from the pumping stations through package-6 of the project.

On Tuesday night, water was released from Sripada Yellampalli reservoir to the Surge pool of Nandi Medaram pump house and filled up to 142.3 metres.
Earlier, on Monday night, the Draft tube gate of the first motor was lifted and on Tuesday night the Draft tube gate of the second motor was lifted.

On Wednesday, after switching on the first motor as part of the wet run, officials observed whether the water was flowing at the required rpm (revolution per minute) as designed. Later, the Butterfly valve which will open after attaining the required speed will allow the water into the impeller of the pump in the form of spiral casing and from here water is lifted.

The water which is lifted from the Surge pool of Nandi Medaram will reach the Nandi Medaram reservoir and from there the Godavari water will reach Laxmipur Surge pool and by the process of lift irrigation the water will finally reach mid-Manair.

All the technical work related to KLIS was completed successfully. As many as 82 massive mega heavy duty motors have been installed for supplying around 151 tmcs of water from the Godavari River to all the reservoirs in various districts across the state along with Medigadda Barrage.

The water will be supplied through package-6 and package-7 of KLIS to package-8 and from there, through an approach channel, the water will be supplied to mid-Manair and then to SRSP canal. Later, from SRSP water will be supplied to the fields for irrigation.

Chief Minister K. Chandrasekar Rao has congratulated engineers, technicians and workers who successfully completed the first pump wet run of KLIS package-6. Mr Rao also called Chief Engineer of the project, Nalla Venkateshwar Rao on the phone and conveyed his wishes to him.

The speaker of the Telangana State Legislative Assembly, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Endowment Minister A Indrakaran Reddy and former Irrigation Minister and Siddipet MLA, T Harish Rao also congratulated the engineering staff for successfully conducting the wet run.
